Why Join NBC 2008?

This is not a school based competition or assessment. Band directors and conductors are allowed to select their own programmes with required piece recommendations from the Advisory Council. So that participating bands have space to reach new heights, strive innovation, growth and excellence instead of focusing on achieving standings and a rating.

How do we define professional musicians?

To put it simply, full-time paid personnels who are engaged by an organization to perform as a musician.

How does the 10% professional musician rule work?

It means 10% of your total participating strength. If your band has 60 participating musicians, you will only be allowed up to 6 professional musicians.

Are we able to engage professional musicians who have been engaged by other participating bands?

Yes, you may engage them at your own expense.

Can conductors perform as musician in another participating band?

Yes, they may perform as a musician in another participating band. However, they may not perform as a musician in more than one band.

Can conductor conduct more than one band?

Yes.

Are we allowed to perform more than one choice pieces?

Yes, you may perform more than one choice pieces within the stipulated time with respect to your registered division.

I would like to register my primary school band in the Young Artiste Division. However, I have foreign students who are older than 12 years of old, do they still qualify?

Yes, you may register them as participants in the competition as long as they are registered students of the school.

When do I have to submit titles of my required piece, choice piece and musicians list?

We will send the registration package in March and expect to be returned by April 2006.

May I submit my own required piece?

Yes, you may. However, all required piece must comply to the framework as recommended.

Will I be penalized if my band performance time exceed?

Yes, the participating band will be penalized. Penalties will be spelt out by the Advisory Council which will be released.

Is tuning allowed on stage?

Yes, tuning is allowed on stage; however, please make sure it is within the total stage presence time.

Why are there charges for participation?

As much as we would like to keep it free-of-charge, we need to recognise the fact that this project is initiated and funded by private entities who believe in wind band education. Like any other international competitions, there are minimum charges imposed. We strongly believe that the intangible gains for your musicians are definitely worth more than the minimal participation fees.

How can payment be made?

Upon receiving the invoice, you can pay through (1) cash at our office, (2) crossed cheque made payable to "World Music Projects Pte Ltd" or (3) IFAAS - Integrated Financial Accounting & Administration System.

How many conductor scores do I have to submit to the organisers? And when?

FIVE (05) copies per title by 20 June 2008, Friday. It will be returned by end of each competition day.
